Gosh Darn It, Joe!

National Review Online has a good article about Biden's debate performance. Biden was lying through his teeth through most of the debate.

For the most part, these were gross exaggerations or convenient fictions aimed to allow him to make a point he couldn’t otherwise support. How to answer the charge that he and Obama voted for a budget resolution that called for taxing Americans making $42,000? Assert that John McCain voted for it too, although he didn’t. How to argue that we’re paying no attention to Afghanistan? Claim repeatedly that we spend more in Iraq in three weeks than we have spent in Afghanistan in seven years, although that’s very far from true. How to explain his vote for the Iraq war in light of his subsequent views? Say it wasn’t a war resolution, though it was. And on and on Joe went.

Biden misrepresented McCain's views on deregulating the banking and health care industry. The Washington Post says Biden's claim that McCain's healthcare plan would result in the middle class paying more for health insurance and in taxes was a "fabrication." Part of McCain's plan is to allow you to buy insurance from out of state (currently illegal). This is what Biden calls "deregulation." McCain's plan would make health care more affordable, give you more control, and make it portable if you switch jobs.

Biden claimed that McCain has special tax cuts planned for oil companies. This is untrue. McCain wants to lower corporate tax rates for all corporations, not just oil companies. And who does Biden think pays corporate taxes? They are passed down to us through higher prices.

Biden and Palin were both full of serious distortions in the debate. I don't know that you can say one was more honest or truthful than the other. See factcheck for details.

You do realize this bad boy is about over, don't you? 538.com has Obama winning about 87% of the time. Pollster gives him 260 electoral votes pretty safely not counting tossup states, and I think even Karl Rove does as well.

And my own words from late August shortly after Palin was selected would appear oddly prophetic. She was a poorly vetted, under-qualified choice for VP who has done nothing to increase McCain's appeal among women and independents. I wonder if things would be slightly different if Romney were the VP nominee.

You can say I'm an elitist, but I simply don't want a VP that uses phrases like "Gosh darn it," "Ain't," and "You betcha" in a presidential debate. It is embarrassing.

Palin misstated the number of times that Obama voted to raise taxes, but her critique of Obama on taxes is still dead on. However, the substance of Biden's arguments are misleading and false.

What do you mean by poorly vetted? This seems to be a popular talking point. What skeleton in her closet are you referring to?

I would rather have Romney, but I'm relieved McCain at least chose a conservative. Perhaps Bobby Jindal would have been the best choice.

Obama has been gaining ground, but there's a lot of time left. Even if Obama wins, it won't stop me from warning how disastrous his policies would be for this country.

Kyle, what's embarrassing is that we are considering putting a man in the White House who considers people like Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers as acceptable sources of political support.

Over? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

CBS just came out with a poll that gives Obama just a 3 point lead with likely voters. 1 in 5 registered voters say they haven't committed to a candidate. Surely a state or two is going to flip flop before it's all said and done.

I thought the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

Kyle, let it go, I'm rolling. There's a
movie you really need to see.

Okay, I thought that was deliberate on your part, but I did not get the allusion to Animal House. That makes much more sense now.
